Anse à la Gourde, White sand beach in Saint-François, Guadeloupe.
The 1.2-kilometer beach stretches between Cabrits Point and Gourde Point on the northern coast of Châteaux Peninsula, 10 kilometers from Saint-François.
Archaeological excavations between 1995 and 2000 revealed multiple Amerindian settlements dating from the 6th to 15th centuries, with over 1800 post holes discovered.
The burial grounds uncovered during excavations contained remains of 100 individuals in 83 pits, showing different funeral customs through body positioning.
The beach access requires attention due to rocks, and swimming conditions are regulated by the presence of a coral reef barrier.
A rocky islet called Éperon Rock stands 700 meters offshore from Gourde Point, adding to the coastal geography.
