Punta di Muro, Mountain summit in Corsica, France
Punta di Muro is a 456-meter summit in Corsica that rises above the surrounding Mediterranean terrain. From the top you can see the northern coastline and the inland mountain ranges stretching across the island.
The peak served as a lookout post for Mediterranean traffic during the medieval period and beyond. Residents used it to warn of approaching pirates and merchant vessels.
The grasslands host traditional shepherd communities who continue their ancestral way of life in these high pastures.
The climb is possible from March through November, with morning hours offering the clearest views. Sturdy footwear and plenty of water are essential since the summit has little shelter.
The granite rock formations at the peak create natural passages that produce whistling sounds during strong winds. This acoustic effect becomes noticeable when northwestern gusts blow across the summit.
