Psiloritis Natural Park

The park spans 1,159 square kilometers, encompassing Mount Ida, the highest peak of Crete at 2,456 meters, and extends to the northern coastal zone.

The Natural History Museum of the University of Crete initiated research in the area, leading to its designation as a UNESCO Global Geopark in 2001.

The Idaean Cave within the park holds archaeological evidence of ancient Greek religious practices and contains artifacts from various historical periods.

Visitors can explore the extensive network of marked hiking trails that connect traditional villages, geological formations, and archaeological sites throughout the park.

The park contains Permian fossilized corals, the Vossakos folds formation, and numerous karstic structures that demonstrate the geological evolution of Crete.
