Vidova gora, Mountain summit in Brač, Croatia
Vidova gora is the highest peak on any Adriatic island, rising from the interior of Brač to just under 800 meters. The summit is open and rocky, with wide views over the sea and the islands nearby.
Remains of ancient stone structures near the summit suggest that people lived and gathered on Vidova gora long before written records. The mountain gradually took on a spiritual role for island communities, and that tradition has continued to the present day.
A white stone cross stands at the top, and it serves as a religious landmark for people on the island. Hikers and pilgrims visit the peak together, giving it a character that sets it apart from an ordinary mountain summit.
A marked trail connects the town of Bol to the summit, and most walkers reach the top in about two hours at a steady pace. The path is mostly exposed to the sun, so water and sun protection are worth bringing, especially in summer.
From the top, the beach of Zlatni rat is visible below as a long, narrow tongue of sand that juts out into the sea. Its shape slowly shifts from season to season because currents move the sediment along its tip.
