Gornji Humac

Gornji Humac is a settlement on Brač Island situated at about 500 meters in elevation with traditional stone architecture. The village takes its form from narrow lanes and solid houses that have shaped its appearance across many generations.

The village emerged during medieval times as a farming settlement and experienced both Venetian rule in the 1400s and later Austrian governance. These shifting powers shaped how the place developed over several centuries.

The Baroque Parish Church of St. Nicholas anchors community life in the village center. The building displays religious art from different periods, showing how faith shaped daily traditions here for centuries.

Visitors reach the settlement via local roads connecting to other island villages. It is best to wear comfortable shoes since the narrow lanes are hilly and exploring on foot works best.

The village is the highest inhabited location on Brač Island, offering views across the surrounding landscapes. This elevation made it historically a safe refuge for residents during raids and conflicts.
