Trstenik, Orebić, Coastal settlement in Pelješac peninsula, Croatia

Trstenik is a port settlement tucked into a protected cove on the Pelješac peninsula, with forested hills and terraced vineyards rising behind it. The village lines the waterfront and is defined by its relationship to both the sea and the cultivated slopes around it.

Archaeological evidence on Ćućin hill shows that people have occupied this area since prehistoric times. This continuous habitation reflects the natural advantages the location offered through its sheltered harbor and fertile hillsides.

The settlement is shaped by wine production, with locals cultivating grapes on the surrounding hillsides as part of their everyday life. This practice has woven itself into the local identity and shapes how people relate to the land around them.

The village is accessible by a coastal road that connects to the nearby village of Potomje and provides entry to the wider Dingač wine region. Visitors can explore the vineyards on foot or spend time at the waterfront.

A local winemaker from this area, Mike Grgich, achieved world recognition when his California Chardonnay defeated French wines in a major 1976 competition. This unexpected outcome brought attention to the region's winemaking heritage.
