Kámoni arborétum, Arboretum in Szombathely, Hungary
Kámoni arboretum is a park in Szombathely covering about 27 hectares and houses numerous tree species from different regions. The site features extensive pathways winding through sections of conifers, deciduous trees, and flowering plants.
István Saághy established the arboretum in the 1890s and spent more than 50 years collecting and cultivating exotic trees and shrubs from across Europe. His work laid the foundation for what is today an important collection of botanical specimens.
The place serves as a center for botanical research and demonstrates through its collections Hungarian horticultural practices and methods for plant conservation.
Visitors can explore the grounds on foot and use the pathways to move through the different plant sections. An eco-tourism center on-site offers information about the plant species and their roles in nature.
The arboretum holds Hungary's largest collection of rhododendron varieties, which create colorful displays during their spring blooming season. This collection makes it a particularly valuable place for those wanting to learn about these plants.
