Eightercua, Megalithic tomb in County Kerry, Ireland

Eightercua is a megalithic tomb formed by four tall standing stones arranged in an east-west alignment across the landscape. The tallest stone rises prominently, and the stones appear to mark remnants of an ancient burial enclosure.

The site dates to around 1700 BC during the Bronze Age and reflects early burial practices in Ireland. The stone placement shows the construction skills and funeral rituals valued by people in that ancient period.

Local tradition links this location to Scéine, wife of Amergin mac Míled, a legendary leader of the Milesians in Irish mythology. The stones carry meaning as a burial place in the collective memory of the region.

The site sits about 1.5 kilometers south of Waterville village and is accessible by a short walk from a nearby roadside parking area. You will find the stones in an open field setting that is easy to reach on foot.

The four stones align perfectly with the September equinox, revealing the astronomical knowledge of ancient builders. This precise orientation suggests that people who built this tomb understood and observed celestial patterns.
