Mungret Abbey, Medieval monastery in County Limerick, Ireland

The monastery complex includes three distinct churches, featuring a nave and chancel church with a square tower on its western side.

Founded before 551 AD by Saint Nessan, the monastery housed up to 1500 monks and endured four Viking raids during the 9th century.

The Bell of Mungret, discovered in nearby Loghmore, represents the monastic traditions that influenced medieval Irish religious practices.

Located 4 kilometers southwest of Limerick city center, the abbey stands near Dooradoyle and northeast of the former Mungret College.

The site contains St Nessan's Church with high gables and a lintelled west doorway, built during the 12th century.
