Center for Human Dignity, Museum in Jerusalem, Israel.
The Center for Human Dignity is a museum in Jerusalem dedicated to Holocaust remembrance and the promotion of human dignity through sport. It brings together exhibition halls, a theater, and event spaces under one roof, offering programs for both individual visitors and groups.
The museum grew out of an effort to trace the legacy of Jewish athletes and document what happened to them under Nazi rule. After years of planning involving several architecture firms, the building opened in 2019.
The center uses sport as a way to teach respect and coexistence, and visitors can see how athletics and memory are woven together throughout the space. Exhibitions bring personal stories to the foreground, inviting people of all ages to engage with them directly.
The museum is located in Jerusalem and can be reached by public transportation or on foot depending on where you are staying. Since the building covers several distinct areas, it is worth setting aside enough time to move through all of them without rushing.
The museum focuses specifically on Jewish athletes who competed in the Olympic Games before World War Two, tracing what became of each of them. This angle on Olympic history is addressed in very few places around the world.
