Tropical Botanical Garden and Research Institute

The Tropical Botanical Garden is a large research facility in southern India housing thousands of plant species across distinct planted sections. A river runs through the landscaped grounds, dividing and connecting different zones where plants are organized by type.

The facility was founded in the late 1970s following international discussions about environmental protection and sustainability. A local professor played a key role in establishing and developing this space from its beginning.

The herbal section honors a respected traditional physician from Kerala whose name remains connected to this space. Visitors can observe how healing plants from local medicine are cultivated and displayed here.

The site is expansive with marked paths that allow visitors to walk through different sections comfortably. It helps to wear comfortable walking shoes and set aside enough time to explore the various plant zones at a relaxed pace.

The institute maintains an extensive bamboo collection with more than 70 varieties from across the region. This specialization reflects the plant's importance in southern Indian landscapes and traditional uses.
