Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Cricket field in Gahunje, Pune, India
The Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium is a cricket field in Gahunje, within Pune district, designed to accommodate more than 42,000 spectators. The playing surface consists of Bermuda grass maintained by a modern irrigation system with retractable sprinklers.
Construction of the stadium began in November 2007 under the leadership of Sharad Pawar, then president of the Indian cricket board. It replaced Nehru Stadium as the main venue for cricket matches in Maharashtra.
The venue bears the name of Maharashtra's cricket association and serves both the local team and international tournaments. During key matches, supporters gather from across the region, and the mood inside reflects the passion for cricket in this part of India.
The ground sits near the expressway linking Mumbai and Pune, making arrival possible by several forms of transport. Visitors enjoy clear views of the action from both ends of the playing area, known as the Pavilion End and the Hill End.
The foundation of the outfield was built with a sand base and special drainage technology, allowing play to resume quickly after rainfall. This design reduces interruptions and keeps matches moving even in changeable weather.
