Indori Fort, Military fort in Pune district, India
Indori Fort is a fortification in Pune district that stands 1033 meters above sea level on the banks of the Indrayani River. Nine bastions connected by stone walls form the main structure of the site.
Sarsenapati Khandojirao Yesajirao Dabhade built the fort between 1720 and 1721 as part of his military strategy. It later became an important location for the Maratha Empire during their expansion.
The temple of Kadjai within the fort shows how military buildings and religious spaces existed together in Indian fortifications. Visitors can still see how both functions served the people who lived here.
You can reach the fort from Talegaon Dabhade town or take a train to Ghorawadi station, which is about 4 kilometers from the entrance. The climb to the site takes time and requires good shoes for uneven paths.
Within the walls stands a mint building with basalt walls that rise between 9 and 12 meters high and are topped with detailed brickwork. This rare structure shows the craftsmanship of that era.
