Visapur Fort

Visapur Fort is a stone fortification built on a high plateau in the Pune region. Walls spread across the grounds, defining the boundaries of this hilltop settlement.

The fort was built in the early 1700s as one of several defensive structures under Maratha control. It served as a strategic military position in the region during that era.

The fort holds temples dedicated to Hanuman where visitors can see people praying today. These sacred spaces remain woven into the spiritual life of nearby communities.

The trek to the fort takes about two hours from the base village and requires sturdy footwear. Starting early in the day helps ensure you arrive before sundown.

A large stone wheel sits within the fort grounds, once operated by animals to grind a special building mixture. This old grinding apparatus reveals how construction techniques were adapted to available resources.
