Karaikal Kailasanathar Temple, Hindu temple in Karaikal, India
The temple stands as the largest religious complex in Karaikal district with four grand doorways marking each cardinal direction of the structure.
The temple dates back more than 2000 years and underwent reconstruction during the Pallava dynasty period in the 8th century and French colonial times.
The temple features sanctums dedicated to multiple deities including Lord Kailasanathar, Goddess Soundarambal, Lord Nataraja, and small statues of 63 Nayanmars saints.
The temple hosts the Mangani Festival, connecting both Kailasanathar Temple and Karaikal Ammaiyar Temple, with regular celebrations throughout the calendar year.
The Chandra Theertham tank serves during the Float festival where idols from both Kailasanathar Temple and local Perumal temple participate in water ceremonies.
