Liplje Monastery, Serbian Orthodox monastery in Teslić municipality, Bosnia and Herzegovina
Liplje Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery in Teslić municipality located at the base of Borje mountain where the Bistrica River flows through a wide section of a narrow gorge. The setting combines natural geological features with religious architecture in a secluded river valley.
The monastery was founded in 1401 and suffered Ottoman destruction during the Great Turkish War. Surviving monks subsequently relocated to Orahovica Monastery across the Sava River to maintain their religious community.
The monastery preserves a collection of ancient books, including printed texts from the 16th century that were essential to Orthodox spiritual practice. These writings show how the site served as a center for maintaining religious knowledge across generations.
The site offers the Monastery Konak, a guest facility accommodating up to one hundred people that also hosts seminars and group gatherings. Visitors should arrange visits in advance if they plan to stay overnight or use spaces for organized events.
During 19th-century renovation work, laborers carefully collected fragments of original frescoes and buried them respectfully beside the church wall. This practice reveals how people honored damaged religious artwork even when it could no longer be displayed.
