Tombstones of Duke Momčilo

The Tombstones of Duke Momčilo are three stone monuments located on the southwestern side of Stražbenica hill in Brkića Potok, decorated with traditional medieval carving patterns. These markers were created during the period when such grave monuments were common across the Balkan region.

These grave monuments were created between the 12th and 16th centuries, when similar stećci markers covered the Balkan landscape. This medieval burial tradition shaped the region and left behind thousands of stone markers that survive to the present day.

Local stories connect these monuments to Duke Momčilo and his family, though historians have found no written records to support this claim. The legends show how medieval stone markers have become woven into the oral traditions of the region.

The stones are located about 5 kilometers southeast of Teslić and can be reached on foot from the town. The site sits on the southwestern side of Stražbenica hill and offers views of the surrounding countryside.

These stones belong to a broader network of stećci monuments scattered across Bosnia and Herzegovina, representing a widespread medieval burial tradition. The connection between these individual markers reveals how people throughout the region shared similar beliefs about honoring the dead.
