Fortress of Doboj

Fortress of Doboj is a stone castle situated on a hilltop where three rivers meet in northern Bosnia. It features thick defensive walls, multiple towers, and interior grounds with the remains of various historical structures.

The castle was founded in the 13th century as a defensive stronghold and passed through various rulers over the following centuries. Ottoman forces took control in 1476 and transformed the structure with significant reconstruction work.

The fortress serves as a venue for local performances and gatherings where visitors encounter traditional regional customs and celebrations. It remains a place where the community comes together to mark important occasions within its medieval walls.

During World War I the fortress functioned as a detention facility holding thousands of prisoners of war within its walls. This period left a profound mark on how local people view the site today.
