Rofanspitze, Alpine summit in Tyrol, Austria
Rofanspitze is a mountain in the Eastern Alps characterized by steep rocky slopes and an exposed peak area. From here you can look across lakes, valleys and the surrounding mountain ranges.
The mountain has drawn mountain climbers since the earliest days of Alpine exploration and was first documented climbed in the 19th century. It has remained a popular destination for hikers and climbers ever since.
Mountain huts in the area serve food prepared according to local traditions passed down through generations. Visitors can taste regional dairy products and other items made by hand in the Alpine region.
A cable car from the village of Maurach brings you quickly to a mountain hut at altitude, reducing long walks on foot. The best time to hike is from June through September when the trails are passable.
From the summit you look down on a large lake that is the biggest body of water in the region and appears as a shining surface below. The surrounding rocks are made of pale limestone that glows especially bright in sunlight.
