Roßkopf

Roßkopf is a mountain summit in Tyrol reaching about 2,259 meters (7,411 feet) in elevation with steep pathways and alpine meadows characterizing the climb. The ascent progresses through green slopes towards the grassy peak, with the landscape changing noticeably at higher altitudes.

Shepherds used ancient paths on this mountain to move herds between valleys during seasonal migrations over many centuries. These traditional routes remain partly preserved as walking trails today, showing how people have long engaged with these slopes.

The mountain huts on this peak, particularly the Erfurter Hütte, serve regional dishes that reflect Alpine food traditions cherished by local communities. These refuge points have become gathering places where hikers experience how mountain culture still shapes daily life in the region.

The mountain can be reached using the Rofan cable car departing from Maurach am Achensee, which significantly shortens the overall climb. This option reduces the elevation gain considerably, making it accessible to visitors with varying fitness levels.

The Hexenfels rock formation near the summit creates changing shadow patterns on the mountainside depending on the time of day. This interplay of light and shadow makes the formation a distinctive visual feature that transforms throughout different times of day.
