Hallerangerhaus, Mountain hut in Karwendel Mountains, Austria
Hallerangerhaus is a mountain shelter located in the Karwendel range at 1,768 meters elevation. It serves as a base facility nestled between the Speckkarspitze and Lafatscher peaks for hikers traversing the region.
The original structure was built in 1901 but was destroyed by an avalanche in 1914. Reconstruction took place 500 meters higher to provide better protection from mountain hazards.
The hut is part of alpine hospitality traditions and serves regional cuisine in shared dining spaces. Visitors find a place where hikers connect and exchange their mountain experiences.
Reaching the hut requires about a 6-hour hike from Karwendelrast car park through Vomper Loch. Alternative routes are available through Halltal Valley, offering different options for hikers of varying experience levels.
Natural spring water flows from Isar sources near the hut, providing fresh mountain water to hikers on-site. This direct water access was a key reason early residents chose this location.
