Schmidt-Zabierow-Hütte, Mountain hut in Lofer, Austria
The Schmidt-Zabierow-Hütte sits at 1966 meters in the Loferer Steinberge mountains and offers overnight stays in shared rooms and on mattress spaces. The building can only be reached on foot and sits surrounded by the rocky mountain terrain.
The mountain shelter began in 1899 as a base for climbers exploring the Loferer Steinberge. Major upgrades to sanitary facilities took place in 2004.
The hut is run by the Filzer family, who serve traditional mountain cooking with local specialties. Visitors experience straightforward hospitality of the kind that has defined Alpine huts for generations.
The hut operates from June through October and requires advance booking. Supplies arrive by helicopter during summer since no roads reach the location.
The hut is the only staffed accommodation in the Loferer Steinberge area and serves as a launching point for many climbing routes and via ferrata. Visitors often use it as a base camp for multi-day mountain pursuits.
