Broelmuseum, Art museum in Buda Island, Kortrijk, Belgium
The Broelmuseum was an art museum housed in a neoclassical mansion on Broelkaai in Kortrijk, displaying artworks and decorative objects spanning multiple centuries. The building itself was an important example of 18th-century architecture and provided an elegant setting for the displayed collections.
The museum was opened in 1981 as a municipal institution that contributed to Kortrijk's cultural development. Operations ended in 2014, after which the building was transformed into a contemporary arts platform.
The collection featured works by regional artists including Roelant Savery, Karel van Mander, and Louis Robbe, representing different artistic movements from the 16th century onwards.
The location sits on an island in central Kortrijk and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should know that the building today functions not as a traditional museum but as a space for contemporary arts activities.
The collection included a 15th-century Triptych of the Virgin Mary with Elisabeth of Hungary, one of the most precious artworks displayed here. Alongside it were paintings depicting harbor scenes and still life compositions that reflected the region's life and landscape.
