Chocoladefabriek Nerem

The Chocoladefabriek Nerem is a red brick industrial building stretching over 165 meters along the railway tracks with reinforced concrete construction. The facility displays functional industrial forms and solid brick facades that shape the character of this former manufacturing zone.

This facility was built in 1909 by Florent Rosmeulen and manufactured Belgian chocolate and gingerbread during the early industrial era. The factory served as an important production center throughout the twentieth century.

The building displays distinctive Art Nouveau details, particularly the decorative horseshoe-shaped window above the main entrance that catches attention from the street. These architectural touches remain visible and define the character of the complex.

The complex has been converted into residential units with loft-style spaces featuring high ceilings up to 4.80 meters and modern amenities like underfloor heating. Multiple entrances provide access while respecting the original industrial layout.

The renovation preserved the original concrete framework while allowing residents to customize their living spaces individually. This creates a rare blend of industrial heritage and contemporary comfort.
