Dorval–L'Île-Dorval, Residential island municipality in Lake Saint Louis, Quebec, Canada
Dorval-L'Île-Dorval sits on an island in Lake Saint Louis and contains several dozen summer homes accessible only by private ferry service from the mainland. The houses are spread throughout the island along winding paths, creating an isolated and peaceful residential setting.
The settlement was incorporated as a separate municipality in 1915 but merged with Montreal in 2002 after nearly a century of independence. This change altered its administrative status while the island itself remained a secluded residential community.
The island preserves the character of a traditional summer cottage community where property owners participate in local municipal affairs.
Access to the island is only possible via the private ferry service from mainland Dorval, reserved for residents and authorized guests. Advance permission is required as entry is controlled and not open to general visitors.
Despite hosting dozens of summer houses, the municipality had only around five permanent residents, making it one of the smallest by population in the country. This tiny permanent population contrasts sharply with the number of seasonal homes scattered across the island.
