Wilkie Sugar Loaf, Mountain summit in Cape Breton Highlands, Nova Scotia, Canada.
Wilkie Sugar Loaf is a mountain summit in the Cape Breton Highlands with a distinctive pyramidal shape. It rises within the North Mountain range near the Aspy Fault.
The mountain was officially named in 1936 after James Wilkie Jr., who received a land grant in the area in 1852. This naming connects the location to the region's early settlement history.
The mountain holds the Mi'kmaq name 'Squa-dichk,' meaning 'the highest point,' reflecting the indigenous connection to this geographical landmark.
The hiking trail to the summit begins west of Bay St Lawrence Road and continues about one kilometer north of Cabots Landing Provincial Park to reach two viewing points. The route is relatively short and straightforward, making it accessible for most hikers.
During clear conditions, visitors at the summit can see across the Cabot Strait to Newfoundland, located 115 kilometers away across the water.
