Statue of Edward Cornwallis, Military memorial statue in Halifax, Canada
The bronze sculpture stood 9 feet tall on a 10-foot granite pedestal, depicting Edward Cornwallis in a Roman emperor style near the railway station.
The Canadian National Railway funded the construction of this CA$20,000 statue in 1931, marking the 182nd anniversary of Cornwallis's arrival to Halifax.
The statue represented differing perspectives on colonial history, leading to discussions about the representation of Indigenous peoples in public spaces.
In 2018, the Halifax Regional Council removed the statue from its location and placed it in storage due to safety considerations.
The site where the statue stood has been transformed into Peace and Friendship Park, reflecting a shift in historical representation within the community.
