Description
The Statue of Edward Cornwallis was a bronze sculpture depicting a military figure in Roman style, located near the railway station in Halifax. It stood on a granite base and occupied a prominent public space for many decades.
History
The monument was erected in 1931 by the Canadian National Railway to commemorate the arrival of Cornwallis in Halifax. The sculpture was removed and placed in storage by the Halifax Regional Council in 2018.

The statue represented differing perspectives on colonial history, leading to discussions about the representation of Indigenous peoples in public spaces.

The sculpture is no longer visible at its original location as it has been placed in storage. Visitors can see the spot where it once stood and observe how the public space has changed.
