Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, Maritime museum in downtown Halifax, Canada.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is a building on Lower Water Street holding over 30,000 maritime artifacts, including ship portraits, models, and the CSS Acadia steamship. The collection spans several floors and includes equipment from shipyards, navigation instruments, and personal items belonging to sailors.
The institution was founded in 1948 at HMC Dockyard and relocated several times. In 1981, it moved into its current building near Halifax Harbour.
The institution's name reflects the importance of seafaring to the city's development and identity. A permanent exhibition shows how indigenous communities built boats and practiced fishing long before European vessels arrived in these waters.
The facility opens on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 20:00 and Wednesdays through Sundays from 9:30 to 17:30. Admission is free on Tuesday evenings.
The collection includes one of the few surviving deck chairs from RMS Titanic. Numerous wooden objects recovered from the vessel are also held here.
