Discovery Centre, Science museum in Halifax, Canada
The Discovery Centre is a science museum with four floors and five permanent galleries covering energy, health, flight, ocean, and children's exploration. It features hands-on exhibits, a planetarium called the Dome Theatre, and an Innovation Lab where visitors can use 3D printers.
The museum grew from science demonstrations at Dalhousie University in the 1970s and was established as a nonprofit in 1985. It opened its first location in 1990 and moved to the Halifax waterfront in 2017.
The centre sits on Mi'kma'ki territory and features exhibitions like Indigenous Ingenuity that highlight First Nations knowledge and perspectives. Visitors experience how traditional wisdom connects with contemporary scientific topics.
The museum sits right on the Halifax waterfront and is easy to navigate with clear signage throughout the galleries. Most visitors spend two to four hours here, moving through exhibits based on their interests.
The building itself is a certified environmental structure that demonstrates sustainable design principles from the moment you enter. This distinction made it Canada's newest science museum when it opened in 2017.
