New Maison de Radio-Canada, Broadcasting house in Montreal, Canada.
The New Maison de Radio-Canada is the main broadcasting facility of Canada's public broadcaster in Montreal, located at the corner of Avenue Papineau and Boulevard René-Lévesque. The building brings together production studios, offices, and technical broadcast operations all in one modern structure.
The original Maison de Radio-Canada was built in the same neighborhood in the 1970s and served as the center of French-language broadcasting in Canada for decades. The current building was developed by the Broccolini group and opened in 2019, replacing the old structure entirely.
The building houses both French and English teams from Radio-Canada, producing radio, television, and digital content every day. Parts of the facade are glazed, so people walking by can catch a glimpse of the activity inside the studios.
The building sits at a well-connected corner near metro stations and bus stops, making it easy to reach on foot from the surrounding area. Weekdays tend to be the busiest time around the facility, as production activity runs throughout the day.
The roof of the building is fitted with garden areas that contribute to energy and water management while also serving as a space for staff. These rooftop gardens are part of a sustainability plan that is unusual for a broadcast center of this size.
