Oberaar Glacier, Alpine glacier in Bern, Switzerland
The Oberaar Glacier extends for 5 kilometers with a width of 800 meters, reaching an elevation of 2,547 meters in the Bernese Alps.
The glacier previously connected with the Unteraar Glacier during past ice ages, forming an extensive ice mass that reached the region of Bern.
Scientific expeditions to the Oberaar Glacier have contributed substantial data to Alpine research, advancing the understanding of glacial systems.
Visitors can access the glacier through marked trails near the Oberaarsee reservoir lake, with the Oberaarjoch hut providing accommodation at 3,256 meters.
The meltwater from Oberaar Glacier flows into the Oberaarbach torrent, which supplies water to the surrounding hydroelectric system.
