Gantrisch Nature Park, Nature park in Bern region, Switzerland
Gantrisch Nature Park is a large protected area in the Bern region that spans several mountain ranges, dense forests, and deep ravines. The territory also includes several lakes and is crossed by a network of hiking trails that connect different landscapes together.
The protected area was established in 2012, bringing together 19 municipalities in a joint conservation project. Within the territory are remnants of older structures including a medieval castle and a historic monastery, documenting the long history of human settlement.
Farmers actively shape the landscape using traditional methods that have been passed down through generations. As you walk through, you notice fields, meadows, and small farms that form the backbone of daily life here.
The park is accessible from several points, including the village of Riggisberg, where information about hiking trails and public transport is available. During warmer months, you can plan longer outings, while winter can make some higher elevation paths more challenging.
Within the area are observatories where you can view the night sky without light pollution interfering. These special locations make it possible to see stars and planets with remarkable clarity.
