Old château

The old château contains architectural elements from 1700, featuring stone walls and traditional Swiss design elements integrated into its construction and layout.

The original structure belonged to the Erlach family for 414 years until 1798, when Karl Friedrich Steiger acquired the property during political changes.

The château holds class B status in the Swiss Cultural Property register, representing regional architectural traditions and historical construction methods.

Located at Schlossweg 12 in Riggisberg, the château stands near the center of the municipality and functions as an administrative building.

Following its 1880 acquisition by local authorities, the château transformed from an aristocratic residence into a poorhouse before becoming a government facility.
