City theatre of Biel

The City Theatre of Biel occupies a stone building within the medieval Old Town streets, displaying traditional architectural details throughout its facade. The venue functions as a working performance space with year-round programming.

The structure originally functioned as an arsenal before being transformed into a cultural venue. Between 1858 and 1860, architect Alexander Kohli-Bratschi oversaw substantial renovations that shaped its present form.

The venue hosts performances in both German and French, reflecting the bilingual identity that defines the city. This dual-language programming shapes how the local artistic community presents its work to audiences.

The theatre sits at Burggasse 19 in the center and connects easily to public transport links. Regular performances take place throughout the year for different audiences.
