Former country estate Rockhall, Manor house complex in New City North, Bienne, Switzerland
The Rockhall estate consists of a main manor house and two flanking villas surrounded by gardens and vineyards in northern Bienne.
Built between 1692 and 1694, Rockhall was the first private residence constructed outside the city walls of Bienne, extending to the Schüss river.
The entrance hall features ceiling paintings from 1694 depicting hunting scenes, representing late 17th-century decorative arts in Swiss architecture.
The building now houses the Seeland civil registry office and provides accessible facilities with a ceremony room for wedding celebrations.
Swiss-English naturalist Jean-Rodolphe Vautravers acquired the estate in 1763, adding fountains and hosting Italian occultist Alessandro Cagliostro.
