Underground, Entertainment centre in Ehrenfeld, Germany
Underground was an event venue in Ehrenfeld featuring two performance spaces decorated with elaborate graffiti artwork. A bar area served drinks to guests attending concerts and parties throughout the week.
The venue opened in 1988 inside a former industrial factory building that once produced electrical equipment. It closed in 2017 when the aging structure was demolished to make way for new development.
The place served as a hub for underground music and alternative scenes in Cologne. Musicians and fans gathered to experience bands beyond the mainstream and support local talent in an independent setting.
Events took place weekly starting around 10 PM with rotating themes and different musical genres each night. Regular events typically had free entry, making the space accessible to a broad audience.
The broadcaster Westdeutscher Rundfunk filmed multiple concerts there for the Rockpalast television program, bringing wider recognition to the venue. These broadcasts reached thousands of viewers and helped establish the reputation of many bands that performed there.
