Erzgebirgsstadion, association football stadium in Aue-Bad Schlema, Saxony, Germany
Erzgebirgsstadion is a football stadium in Aue-Bad Schlema, home of FC Erzgebirge Aue. Since its 2015–2017 conversion into a pure football ground, all spectator areas are covered and the stands sit close to the pitch. It holds 15,500 spectators, with a purple band on the facade and a floodlight pylon behind one end.
The first stadium on the site opened on 27 May 1928 as the Städtisches Stadion. After the war the Red Army used it for training, and from 1949 the SDAG Wismut was its sponsor. A new arena, the Otto-Grotewohl-Stadion, was built in four months and opened on 20 August 1950 with a 3:3 friendly against Waggonbau Dessau. Renamed Erzgebirgsstadion on 26 November 1991, it was rebuilt as a pure football ground by the end of 2017.
The club colours give the stadium its purple running-track surface, laid in 2004, and the ground is known locally as the Erzgebirgsstadion after the mountain range. Since 1 March 2024 the stadium forecourt has been named Gerd-Schädlich-Platz, honouring the coach who died in 2022; the ground's address is Gerd-Schädlich-Platz 1.
The stadium sits in the Lößnitztal at the foot of the Zeller Berg, with its address now Gerd-Schädlich-Platz 1. All spectator areas are covered, and the rebuilt stands were moved close to the pitch after the athletics track was removed. The ground is owned by the Erzgebirgskreis district.
