Blockhaus Nikolskoe, Restaurant and architectural heritage monument in Wannsee, Germany.
Blockhaus Nikolskoe is a restaurant and heritage monument built from wood with Russian farmhouse architecture on the shores of Lake Havel. The building has four dining rooms and a terrace with views of the water and Pfaueninsel island.
King Friedrich Wilhelm III commissioned the building in 1819 to honor his daughter Charlotte and her husband Nicholas, who later became Russian Tsar. The choice of Russian architectural style reflected the connection between the two royal families.
The restaurant serves dishes based on regional Berlin recipes, including potato soup and schnitzel, prepared fresh daily by the kitchen staff. Guests sit in cozy rooms and enjoy traditional German food as it has been known in this area for generations.
The restaurant is open Wednesday through Sunday, with longer hours on Friday and Saturday. The rooms accommodate around 80 guests, and the terrace allows for pleasant meals with lake views.
The restaurant operates as an inclusive workplace where employees with and without disabilities work together to provide dining services. This approach makes a visit here an experience that goes beyond good food.
