Prenzlau, Historical district capital in Uckermark, Germany.
Prenzlau is a district capital in Uckermark, Brandenburg, positioned on the western shore of Lake Unteruckersee north of Berlin. Four parallel streets connect the central park to the waterfront promenade, and the town center contains several towers and church buildings made of red brick.
The town was founded in the 13th century and grew quickly into a trade center protected by strong walls. In April 1945, bombing raids and fires destroyed much of the medieval fabric.
The Cultural History Museum occupies a former Dominican monastery, presenting northern Germany's finest examples of Brick Gothic architectural style.
The town wall follows a marked circuit that includes the Steintor Tower, walkable in about half an hour. The lakeshore offers paths and water activities during the warmer months.
Lake Unteruckersee hosts e-foiling sessions where electric surfboards lift riders above the water on hydrofoils. The boards glide almost silently and require no waves or wind.
