AquaDom, Public aquarium in Germany
AquaDom was a cylindrical aquarium housed in the Radisson Blu Hotel in Berlin's Mitte district, constructed from acrylic sheets. The structure stood approximately 15.85 meters tall and 11.5 meters wide, with internal elevator access for visitors.
The aquarium opened in 2004 as a novel attraction in Berlin's city center, remaining a landmark for nearly two decades. The acrylic shell ruptured catastrophically in December 2022, destroying the entire structure.
The AquaDom became a marine exhibit and an architectural marvel admired by tourists.
Visitors rode internal elevators through the aquarium's center to observe marine life from within the tank. The central elevator route offered a complete view of the surrounding water and its inhabitants.
The aquarium held approximately one million liters of saltwater and housed hundreds of fish species alongside coral ecosystems. This volume made it one of Europe's largest freestanding water structures.
