Sigmaringen Castle

The castle rises 200 feet above the Danube River on a limestone outcrop, forming the central landmark of the Sigmaringen municipality.

The medieval fortress, first mentioned in 1077, transformed into a residence for the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen princes after they acquired it in 1535.

The castle contains a collection of 3,000 weapons and armor pieces, representing military developments from the 14th through the 20th centuries.

Visitors can access the castle exclusively through guided tours in German, with translated materials available upon request throughout the year.

The castle served as the temporary headquarters of the French Vichy government during the final months of World War II in 1944-1945.
