Amalienfelsen, Rock formation in Inzigkofen, Germany.
Amalienfelsen is a limestone formation rising approximately 29 meters above the Danube River, creating a distinct wall of rock along the water's edge. The structure stands within Fürstlicher Park and offers views from multiple viewing platforms connected by marked trails throughout the grounds.
The formation was renamed in 1841 to honor a royal figure, replacing earlier names such as Bleifelsen or Blaufelsen. This change in naming reflects how the site was reinterpreted and given new meaning during that period.
The rock face displays cast iron letters that mark a royal connection, making it recognizable from various points along the river. This inscription gives the formation a personal identity that visitors notice as they walk through the park.
Access to viewing areas is available through walking paths that connect multiple vantage points throughout the park. Proper footwear is recommended since the trails cross natural terrain and can be uneven in places.
The western side drops sharply into the river and marks a significant geographical transition in how the Danube flows through the region. This location offers insight into the geological features that shape the surrounding landscape.
