Founded in 744 by Saint Sturm under the direction of Saint Boniface, the monastery became the nucleus from which the city of Fulda developed.
The monastery established a significant library and school under abbots Baugulf and Ratgar, becoming a center of medieval scholarship and manuscript production.
The monastery church maintains regular prayer times, starting with morning lauds at 6 AM, followed by mass at 7:30 AM and additional services throughout the day.
The monastery garden has maintained organic cultivation methods for over half a century, producing herbs, vegetables, and fruits for self-sufficiency.
