Kloster Frauenberg, Franciscan monastery on Frauenberg hill, Fulda, Germany
Kloster Frauenberg is a Franciscan monastery situated on a hill overlooking Fulda with a late baroque church. The complex offers guest rooms in various configurations, conference spaces, and a large garden providing views across the city below.
The monastery was founded between 802 and 817 as a Benedictine community and remained under that order until 1525. In 1620 Franciscans took over the complex and established the monastery that exists today.
The monastery serves as a gathering place for the city, hosting regular concerts and markets where local people meet. The community also supports people with disabilities, creating a welcoming space for everyone.
The site is easy to reach via highways and train connections from central Germany. The grounds are located on Fulda's rolling hills and can be explored on foot by visitors.
The monastery operates workshops in gastronomy, laundry, and tailoring in partnership with the antonius foundation. These work spaces give people with disabilities opportunities to contribute meaningfully to the community.
