Ausbesserungswerk Schwetzingen

The railway repair complex spans across 19 hectares between the municipalities of Schwetzingen and Plankstadt, incorporating multiple industrial buildings and maintenance halls.

The facility operated from 1918 to 1989, servicing steam locomotives until 1930 and later focusing on freight wagon maintenance for the German railway network.

The repair facility employed numerous workers from different countries during the 1960s, reflecting the industrial growth and labor migration patterns in post-war Germany.

The northern section now houses a Decathlon logistics center with 50,000 square meters of storage space, employing over 800 people as the largest private employer in the area.

Three structures remain under monument protection: the wagon adjustment hall II, the spring forge, and the porter's lodge, preserving elements of early 20th-century industrial architecture.
