Technoseum, Technology museum in Mannheim, Germany
The Technoseum is a technology museum in Mannheim presenting industrial history and technological developments along an exhibition path of about one kilometer. The route guides visitors from the 18th century to today, showing how technology and society changed over time.
The museum was built in the 1980s following designs by architect Ingeborg Kühler and opened in 1990. It was created to document the rapid technological changes that shaped the industrial region.
The exhibition shows how people worked and lived in different eras, with nine stations recreating past working conditions. Visitors can try out how machines functioned and what skills workers needed.
The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:00, with adult admission at 12 euros and free entry for children under 6. There is much to try out, so plan several hours for a visit.
A narrow-gauge railway with two different track widths runs through the center of the museum and offers rides on a special locomotive. This unusual installation blends the exhibition with hands-on experience in a playful way.
