Bundespressestrand, Urban beach in Mitte, Berlin, Germany
Bundespressestrand was an urban beach along the Spree River situated between government buildings with sand areas and views of the Reichstag and Chancellery. The venue featured a two-story pavilion housing a bar, terrace, dance floor, volleyball court, playground, and multiple seating zones.
The beach club opened in 2003 next to the Federal Press Conference building and operated until 2011. This project emerged during a period when the government district was being reshaped and brought leisure into the heart of where power was centered.
The beach served as a place where politicians, journalists, and citizens mingled and spent time together. Thursday evening salsa nights drew crowds and gave the spot a lively character.
The beach was easily accessible in the city center with free entry and direct access to the water. Visitors should plan to come during warmer months to fully enjoy the dining and event offerings.
During special events, Siemens installed washing machines on the grounds as a humorous nod to the nearby Chancellery building. This unexpected installation made the space blend official seriousness with playful lightheartedness.
