Burgauer Wald, Sacred grove in Kreuzau, Germany
Burgauer Wald is a forest area south of Düren that stretches toward the adjacent Drover Heide and covers roughly 46 hectares. The land has been designated as a nature reserve and features different woodland types with clearings and paths running through it.
The area was a ceremonial site in ancient times where Germanic peoples performed rituals, as the Roman historian Tacitus documented. This use of the forest as sacred space shaped how the place was understood over many centuries.
