Klarissenkloster Ribnitz, Medieval monastery in Ribnitz-Damgarten, Germany
The Klarissenkloster Ribnitz contains multiple exhibition spaces within its preserved medieval walls, including an art gallery and the German Amber Museum.
Founded in 1324, the monastery initially housed Poor Clare nuns from Weißenfels and later transformed into an evangelical convent following the Reformation period.
The monastery church displays the Ribnitzer Madonnen collection, featuring detailed wooden sculptures retrieved from former church altars in the region.
Visitors can access guided tours of the monastery complex, which includes the abbey church, former living quarters, and multiple museum exhibitions.
Heinrich II of Mecklenburg offered his four-year-old daughter Beate to the monastery, establishing a tradition of noble abbesses that continued for centuries.
