Ribnitz-Damgarten West railway station, Railway station in Ribnitz-Damgarten, Germany
Ribnitz-Damgarten West is a railway station on the line connecting Stralsund and Rostock in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The facility has two platforms situated on elevated ground, making it convenient for passengers to board and exit.
The station was founded in 1888 and was originally called simply Ribnitz. After the merger of the towns of Ribnitz and Damgarten in 1950, it received its current name Ribnitz-Damgarten West.
The station building stands as a protected monument and displays typical features of railway architecture from this region. Walking through it, you notice the craftsmanship and solid construction that was common for stations of its era.
The station is well signposted and the platforms are easy to reach, even for people with limited mobility. The building itself offers waiting areas and basic facilities that make waiting for connections pleasant.
On the east side of the station building once stood a Mitropa restaurant, a typical railway restaurant from East German times. After German reunification, this traditional establishment closed, and today only the empty space reminds visitors of its past.
