Ribnitz-Damgarten West railway station, Railway station in Ribnitz-Damgarten, Germany
Ribnitz-Damgarten West is a railway station on the line between Stralsund and Rostock, in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in northeastern Germany. The brick building sits on slightly elevated ground and serves two platforms that passengers can reach directly from it.
The station opened in 1888 under the simple name Ribnitz. When the towns of Ribnitz and Damgarten merged in 1950, the station was renamed Ribnitz-Damgarten West to reflect the new combined municipality.
The station building is a listed monument and shows the solid brick construction typical of 19th-century railway architecture in this part of northern Germany. Walking past the facade, you can see the careful detailing that was standard for regional stations of that era.
The station is easy to find and the platforms are straightforward to reach from the street, with no complicated layout to navigate. A waiting area inside the building offers shelter while you wait for the next train.
On the east side of the station building, there was once a Mitropa restaurant, a type of railway catering found across East Germany. It closed after German reunification, and the space it once occupied now stands empty.
